The Coronavirus pandemic rekindled interest in collecting as people were stuck at home with their computers. The summer 2020 documentary on Michael Jordan on ESPN also has exploded demand for his cards. Today card manufacturers are similarly cranking out cards to meet growing demand, and maybe of these cards are getting slabbed. Similarly prices are rising parabolically.
